Is this a foreign owned tour company?

No. Juan Martin Tours is 100% family owned and operated. Juan Martin has lived and worked in La Ventana for his entire life and will leave the business to his 2 sons when he retires.

While Juan is fluent in Spanish, he also has an english speaking guide on board.

How much is the tour?

The cost is 3200 pesos per person. Bring a friend (book 2 or more people) and the cost is 2900 pesos each. Payable through credit card or direct transfer at time of booking.

If you have a great experience and wish to tip, pesos are gratefully accepted by the captain and his family upon return.

How long are the tours?

We depart La Ventana at 8am and return between 1-2:30pm approximately. Factors like weather and wildlife interactions mean we can't give you an exact time.

How many people on a boat?

Our trips run with 3 - 6 guests.

Which animals will we see on our tour?

We WILL see animals, and while they call the Sea of Cortez, "the aquarium of the ocean" for a reason, it is impossible to guarantee who will show up on the day. The interactions we have are completely up to the animals, and well... luck!

If you have your heart set on seeing a specific animal, we recommend taking a look at our species calendar at the bottom of this page. Some creatures are highly seasonal, and it's best to maximize your chances by going out during the right months.

What should I bring?

Most importantly, you should bring water, swimwear, sun protection, a hat, sunglasses and sunscreen. We also recommend bringing a camera, a towel, and dry/warm clothes if you get chilly after the water. If you would like to bring extra snacks you are welcome to pop them in our cooler on board.

Most importantly, bring your excitement! The ocean truly feeds of our energy, and boats with good attitudes always seem to be blessed with the best encounters.

Do I need to bring snorkel equipment or lunch?

We provide cressi masks, snorkels and adjustable fins. We do NOT supply wetsuits (the water is quite warm however). If you would like to bring your own equipment, you are more than welcome!

We provide a light lunch on the boat. We generally prepare fresh ceviche, so please plan accordingly if you would prefer something else!

Can you take us to see the orcas?

Orcas in La Ventana have gained worldwide fame recently, and so we understand the excitement to see them. While orcas do pass through our area occasionally, social media has greatly exaggerated how common interactions are with them. If we encounter orcas on our trip, it will be a complete surprise - and a rare, exciting treat. We absolutely cannot guarantee any animal sighting. Keep in mind that no operator can guarantee orcas, and you should be cautious booking with anyone who makes this promise.

Do you harrass animals?

No. We aren't into surrounding animals with boats and forcing interactions. We will make a judgement call on each interaction, and will choose to leave the area if too many people are already there.

"When we went out with Juan it felt like we had the keys to the ocean. He knew all the spots and was well connected with the other captains on the water. The boat beers on the way home were topppp"
